hi , i have took out a ceiling rose and want to fit a new light in the ceiling.
coming out of the ceiling is one cable with live ,neutral & earth, but the switch cable has only one wire which i think is red.
i want to fit the feed cable to the light fitting i:e red to red, black to black,
earth to earth.
but where does the switch cable connect to?

What do you mean by switch cable??

A single red in a grey outer??

How are you sure it is the switch??

You do see the end of older two way switched circuits like this, the live in the 2 core cable is actually not used for anything, or looped onto another light.

Put the switched red into the lights live terminal, the black into the neutral, earth to earth, and the red from the 2 core into a terminal block on its own.
