Hi guys.
A friend has got a shop and wants to install an open vent system for cold and hot water only and NO ch. As there is not going to be any ch, is it ok to do without the motorised valve? Thank u for your advise.

look up rinnai water heaters.
The reason why he wants OV is because if there is a water mains cut he can still have a back up of cold and hw. Can i do without a MV?

to your answer,as long as the cylinder stat turns the boiler off. no.but cant see why a costly inefficent setup would justify in the long run. a what if scenario.

Is it gasfired or electric?
gas fired
In that case you should leave it to a competent qualified installer; he will know how to do it.
The corgi man will connect up the gas pipe to the boiler but since the guy does not want any ch i thought it was possible to do without the MV and to let the cylinder stat to activate the pump and boiler when calling for hw.....i just wanted an opinion from somebody more experienced than me.

i can't see any safety implication by doing without a MV..........what's your view on that?
