My daughter's WM element keeps failing and tripping the RCD - replaced three times in two years.
She does use it a lot.

I can't remember the make of machine (obviously can find out if needed).
The element is a 1700W 170mm push in type.

Does anyone know if these are particularly prone to failure or am I buying rubbish ones?
It was £25 on the net.

I did notice that, when new, the IR was only 0.1 MΩ.

0.1 m ohm does seem a bit on the low side for a new element as for the element failing are you in a hard water area if so you need an inline filter if not then check the water level is suffient if thats ok then i would ensure the replacement is an origenal part

Sorry for the delay - forgot all about it.

It is a hard water area and I will check the water level.

She has ordered genuine part this time.

Will be interested to see what the IR is when it arrives.

Many thanks.

Update for anyone who is interested -

New element arrived, genuine Indesit. It looked the same but...

IR was >500MΩ - a bit of a difference.
Perhaps it will last a bit longer.

Old element now down to 0.01MΩ (>2000Ω on continuity)

Unfortunately Southern Electric had dug a big hole outside and let all the electricity escape so couldn't test the machine but it's bound to be alright.

Interestingly, yesterday I fitted a new immersion heater element in another house and the IR on that was 'only' 7.8MΩ (Toolstation).

Thanks.
