Hi There
My father in law is in the process of purchasing a wood burnig fire to replace his standard open fire. Are there any regs involved with this i.e does it have to be installed by a registered installer.
Any info greatly received

No, but it's reportable under building control (for HIP's). To self certify and avoid LA costs, you do need to be qualified (HETAS course) and a member of a competency scheme. Current ones for solid fuel/wood are run by HETAS, NICEIC, NAPIT, AHPC & HVAC.

But then if you're not going to sell it with the house..............................

Sorry forgot to mention which regs apply - It's building document J.
