Wood filler?

I have joined some ply to battens with zinc plated screws countersunk below the surface. I'd like to fill the holes and then paint it.
I just wondered whether regular wood filler is best, that is, does it stick to the screw heads well or is it better to use another type of filler?

Undercoat it all included screws.
Fill.
Depends what you are doing with it.
If the wood is outside I'd use 2 pack wood filler.
Inside powdered filler would work well.
2 pack resin is harder to sand Vs powdered filler.

I was about to post a similar question - best way to fill screw heads on exterior door (before gloss finish).
You recommend undercoating the screws before filling them? And in my case, I need to rot-treat and fill some edges of the wood. Again, undercoat before filling?

Some filler is designed to go on bare wood. Toupet powdered wood filler as example although it will go over paint but it mentions in data sheet better over bare wood.
So organised depends.
