I have a new set of banisters to paint, I have some Dulux trade knotting solution. It comes in a small tin with a brush attached to the lid. It is a dark brown color. However reading previous posts here everyone seems to advocate a white color knotting solution. I imagine this will be fine after it's primed & a couple of coats of satinwood applied ?

Also will standard wood primer be alright as a primer for some mdf as well - or should I go & get some mdf primer for this ?

Thanks guys

The knotting you have is fine...clear or white knotting has other uses..

Why do you want to use MDF primer?..are the stair parts made from MDF?

I always use thinned out undercoat..they wont advise that on paint makers web sites but beleive me it works fine.

Oh the mdf is for some pipes I have boxed in in the same room - unrelated to the stairs. Thanks for the reply Zampa
