Pallets are made from a cheap hardwood, will last years even untreated, make sure the surface drains easily so they don't get water logged.

space the wood of the base by at least 25mm with slabs or something non wood and a layer off felt or dpm to stop moisture soaking the wood

Pallets are made from non durable timbers, mostly disposable softwood and reusable hardwood.

Brush on treatment is fairly useless, it doesn't penetrate to any depth. It's only useful for timber above ground, like cladding or fence rails, but not for anything resting on the ground.

Keep them raised off the ground, with a DPM underneath and protected from wetting and splash back (so have the building overhang them or bring down the cladding to protect them).[/u]
