Hi
Not too sure if I’m posting this in correct forum.

I’ve got wood panelling on my walls in my Dining room.
My previous house had wood panelling too and it was a lovely dark colour. Well this house the panelling is not so nice looking.
When it was bare wood it was originally stained using Classic Natural colour. As it looked too light it was then stained using Sadolin Classic African Walnut colour.
It’s still not how I want it.
I’ve tried Ronseal Dark Oak colour in a inconspicuous area but still not brilliant.

What can I now do and what’s a good dark stain. If I need to sand down etc so be it.

Any help would be appreciated

I strongly recommend against using a tinted woodstain. It will be somewhat opaque and hide the grain, and the colour will be darker depending on the thicvkness of the film and the number of coats.

IMO the best results come from sanding back to the bare wood and using a spirit-based (not water) wood dye such as Colron or Rustins. This will enhance the grain and you can choose a colour, or mix them to your taste. When dry, you can use a clear, colourless (preferably matt) varnish.
