Hi,
We are having some double glazing installed in a few weeks time and it seems as though the internal architraves around the windows will have to be replaced when the double glazing is installed.
The options offered by the contractor are uPVC or MDF architraves with a sculptured or moulded profile in an attempt to match the window architraves to the ones being removed and also to match the architraves around all the internal doors in the house.
I am not sure if there are any advantages or disadvantages between uPVC or MDF for the replacement architraves to go around the new windows. The new window frames are uPVC but I am just not sure what to opt for re the architraves.
Another option I had though of was to source some wooden architrave myself and get the installers to fit that rather than the uPVC or MDF architrave. Or, ask the contracted to install wooden architraves at a possible extra cost.
Never having had double glazing or architraves replaced before I would appreciate any advice on the pros and cons of the different materials and their appearance before making a selection.
