Can anyone advise me on the minimum clearance regulations needed at the sides of a woodburning stove in a fireplace? We have a standard small fireplace and have just taken out a gas fire with the aim of installing a stove. How much clearance do I need between the stove and the sides of the fireplace?
thanks
Phil

Building Regs. that apply to stoves;

There is no such requirement as long as you comply with BR’s on combustible materials; minimum clearance is more likely to be restricted by the stove manufacturer, if you fit a cassette stove they only require minimal clearance.

Have a read back through the archives for guidance on installing stoves & some definate DONT's. Unless you use a HETAS registered installer, it’s notifyable building work that must comply with several BR’s & will be subject to inspection & test if you DIY.

If you install after 1/10/10 you will also need to install a carbon monoxide detector either hard wired or a sealed one without replaceable batteries.
