Woodchip/Bark

Morning everyone.

I was thinking of levelling some ground for a children's climbing frame (25m2) and was going to lay astro but I've just seen some wood bark suited for kids play areas in B&Q at a fraction of the cost of laying astro. Has anyone used wood and if so is it worth it?

It will grow more weeds than astroturf but be miles cheaper. also it can be a little irritant on bare skin. It will also need replenished probably every 2 years as it gradually disappears.
