I'm in need of some advice on how to replace the wooden facias on my house.
This will be the first time I've ever attempted this and I'm not sure on the best materials to use. I want to use wood again as its
an old cottage so upvc won't look right.
What is the best type of wood to use, best protectant to use and best way to join and fit the boards.
Any other advice and tips would be gratefully appreciated.

Pics would really help given that "an old cottage" building detail might be eccentric.

What lengths of fascia are you talking about?

I haven't got any pictures of it but the cottage was built in the early 1900's.
The facia boards that need replacing are about 30 foot long.
