I have an open fireplace which I am boarding over and installing an inset electric fire and fireplace. There is a recess one brick deep around the area where the new fire will sit. Is it acceptable to fill this with a wooden frame to bring the front face level with the other brickwork prior to boarding over? There will still be some air space around the fire unit to allow venting. Dont want to cause a fire hazard!

Thanks for any help.

Assume you are boarding with plasterboard? which is fire resistant so should be fine, electric fire should not heat any area behind or around it.

The front of the wooden frame will be plasterboarded and then there will be a backing panel, the sides of the wooden frame will not be covered but as long as the fire doesnt get warm it will be fine.

Thanks for your help.
