I am thinking of getting one of these electric inset fireplaces.

http://www.gazco.com/builtintothewa..._electric_fires/studio_1__electric_inset.aspx

I will be insetting it into a chimney breat to replace an open fire, I have had the top of the chimney capped. I have installed a whole house ventilation system so am keen to block up any air gaps behind the fire to make it more efficient/work so intended to seal the chimney flue before putting this fire in.

On the instructions it says an air gap must be left top and bottom but I am unsure if this means there must simply be a gap around the inside of the fire or that the back of the fire must be fully vented into the room?

I could vent back into the room with some holes down the side of the chimney breast into the room but wondered if anyone has any advice on the sort of vent this type of fire place needs?

Any help gratefully received.
