I am fitting an inset electric fire into a fireplace
In the instructions is states that any air vents should be sealed/blocked off
I thought that an air vent was nessasary to keep the chimney well venalated
The chimney does have a pepperpot cowl fitted to the pot

you must maintain airflow top and bottom to stop damp
if your electric fire says something else then you need a way to provide ventilation at both ends perhaps with a baffle or vent away from the fire but definitely at the extremities
