Hi there,

Might sound a funny question but I can't seem to find much online about it...

I am mounting a new basic, round handrail onto a solid concrete wall on my stairs in my new house. The "diagonal" length of the walls between the bottom landing and the mid landing is 3.2m. I will not be putting anything for the 2 steps between the mid landing and the top landing.

So the questions are.

1) How much shorter than the "diagonal" should I make the handrail to avoid hitting it every time I come round the corner from my living room?
2) Will 4 of the brackets holding the rail onto the wall be enough?
3) How far should I put the first brackets from the end of the rail?
4) And finally, what height off the stairs should the rail be positioned?

Cheers for any advice :D

1.

2. 4 brackets will be plenty.

3. 150mm in from each end.

4. 900mm vertically up from the nosing edge of the tread.

Thanks for that.

I guess what I meant in my first question was the equivalent to the distance between the nose of the 1st step and the nose of the top step which is where my wall that the handrail is going on starts and finishes.

Thanks again.
