We are looking at getting rid of the gas fire, knocking the fireplace out and putting in a wood/multifuel burner.
Are we able to retain the wood surround/mantlepiece? The internal dimensions of the surround approx 1mtr square.
I know there are rules and safety issues around having combustible materials around the stove, but would this be far enough away as it would be further back, or is there a way to keep it safe and legit?
