after staining my new skirtings ive managed to get stain on paintwork above skirtings arcs etc im just about to do the caulking gapfilling etc then touch up paint the caulk etc will stain paint over ok or should i maybe sand the stain off cheers again
Small amounts of stain can usually be painted over quite easily. You should give it a light sand, especially if it is a combined stain/varnish, to provide a key for the paint to stick to but you don't need to sand it all off.
It would be worthwhile applying a little oil-based undercoat first, or better still, a stain blocking primer, to help block the colour of the stain and give a decent base for the paint. You might find that the emulsion will just cover the stain by itself though.
