Is treating ww just one of those things best left to the experts, or is it really just a spray and you're done...?

Happy to pay a company if DIY is a pain.

I've done it many times myself with water and premetherin in a garden 'killaspray'. but you'll have to take up the floorcoverings n plenty of floorboards. If the joists are soft, you'll have to cut em out n replace them. If you are a competent DIYer and don't mind living in a mess for a few days crack on.

depends if you can obtain the correct fluid, like what they use then give it a go.
i still dabble at work and we use safegaurd chemicals,i dont know if they sell to the diy market??

what needs treating?
YOU NEED THE CORRECT RESPIRATOR and coveralls, gauntlet gloves and a hat if you decide to go down the diy route  ,
we used to turn off the electrics apart from the cooker socket, and run everything off of that, pump and lights, that way when the fluid starts flying everywhere your not filling up the ceiling roses and jb's when its live.
if its the whole house then it might be worth getting them to do it,this way you will get a guarantee,
when i used to do it,we use to brush down all the cobwebs/dust in the attic, lift all insulation, spray rafters 1st,the joists get a lot of fall out.then spray all the joists. relay insulation, when we finished it looked like the roof had only just been built it was that clean,BUT its a 5hit job to do
when it comes to the floors we used to lift every 5th board and with a broad spray make sure you manage to everything, underneath as well.

stairs, drill a couple of holes in the risers(thats if it is enclosed)and using a stair sprayer.

ground floor,if your really lucky and you have enough gap between floor and oversite then get under the floor and spray from underneath, that way you dont have to disturb the boards.

After that post from Gregers I would suggest getting a few quotes in!

Its just a few rafters in a loft and in a floor that has to come out anyway, so i may give it a go. Any particular make to use? When you say respirator, do you mean something other than just a dust mask then?

Thanks to all for the info

For what it's worth I would use a proper company most give a good long transferable guarantee which is a good selling point at a later date.

I have had to have small areas retreated in two houses done before I bought and the companies have always been very good about honouring the guarantee.

It's a messy job and getting all the kit together and correct chemicals seems just too much hassel to me
