Quote for a new heat exchanger = £687 incl VAT.

Is this reasonable?

Boiler leaking (2 .5 years old)

Thanks

Word of advice. Get Worcester in, It will cost you 250 tops. They have two charges 185.00 for breakdown inc 3 parts but go's up to 250.00 if it's a heat exchanger. Quite often the burner, insulation, PCB, Baffles are all done at the same time...no extra.

When you phone Worcester tell them you know it's the Gas/water heat exchanger that's leaking so they can order the part and allocate the time for the engineer to do the job first visit. Have your boiler make and serial number handy when you call.

Thanks...

Worcester say they are too busy at the moment to take orders... Ill give them another go

Brilliant advice- WB have come out and will replace heat exchanger + pcb+ stat + panels for £285 inc VAt. Bargain.

Also had another quote for £900!

This site and your advice has saved us £400...do you have a favourite charity?... Ill make a donation.

Glad to have helped. When are they doing it? Not a bad job, just timely. Takes me about 2 hours if all drains and fills ok.

Any childrens charity would be great. I'm expecting my first very soon. :D

WB have done half the work... due back tomorrow to finish off, at last. I reckon its taken 6 hours all together as they keep not having the right parts in the van

Do you reckon the power flush we had done (by others) may have caused heat exchanger to start leaking?

Congratulaitons in anticipation...hope it all goes well, savour the first 5 golden years! ours are 11 and 13. Wonderful.

We give to NSPCC so Ill increase our donation

Regards and best wishes

Nigel

Thats unusual, they are normally really good and have the heat exchanger, burner, insulation, pcb...everything in one big box.

No, it won't be your powerflush. I suspect it's the two plates that are screwed on to the cast heat exchanger. Not, sealed properly from the start.

Thx for donating to NSPCC.
