Worcester 240

I went to one this afternoon expecting to do an LSC.

It turned out the first fault was a failed diverter valve. After fixing that there was an eratic knocking sound apparently coming from the secondary HE. Before anyone makes a fool of themselves its NOT a plate!

I seem to remember someone else has seen ( heard ) this but I dont think any explanation was given.

Has anyone else heard this and do they know what causes it?

Also the DHW flow rate is rather low at about 4.5 li/min. Its probably lime scaling in the HE but can anyone else offer any other suggestions? I did not have time to check the filter but I have never yet found any boiler filter clogged up.

You are a consumer as we call you and you know nothing about boilers! Its only a few days since I helped you with yours.

Please dont waste the time of the experts.

Nor am I very please to have seen you making postings under the name of Agiile!

Aaawwwww Agile, I am sorry! And I really did appreciate your help with my boiler problem. But I just have a really infantile sense of humour that occasionally needs to find an outlet, and unfortunately for all you decent blokes, me and a mate (aka Blather and Horace Gripe) have derived much hilarious pleasure in posting to this forum. I will try to stop myself, but you have to admit some of the posts are quite amusing aren't they?

only thing i can think of is inlet filter or metal filter in the diverter valve, i had a job like this for a friend incidentally and it turned out to be the pump. typical diverter fault passing down heating whilst hw on, checked pump with screwdriver seemed to turn... was at me wits end so i thought i'll take pumpe head out and check it the pump came out but the shaft stayed in


is the cw inlet ballofix definitely fully open, ive had it in the past when someones turned it on then off and it has fully opened

Tony had a 240 some time ago with similar problems. Under investigation found a lump of melted plastic in the pump inlet that was just catching the impellor! Very poor DHW heat transfer and slow circulation led me to the pump.

Dont ask me where it came from or what it was or how long it had been there, but thought it might help.

No Stan, this one is providing plenty of heat but just a very poor DHW flow but the burner correctly modulates back to minimum gas valve setting.

It might be the gauze filter but I have checked so many and never found any blocked.

I am expecting it to be lime scale in the HE as Worcesters dont control the temperature very well.

Does anyone remember the knocking sound though?

Well there was this

Something in the exhaust (correct term?!) of my Worcester 240 combi boiler is knocking when the wind blows.

but I doubt that's it
