just been asked by my neighbour a lovley pensioner to try and see why her boiler is not starting up and going to a regular flash on red reset button.
my neighbour has a heating engineer who is on holidays until tuesday, i am not going to try to repair the boiler unless it was a low water pressure or something turned off accidently.
pressure was already at 1.2 bar,so thats ok,
ok fan runs but no ignition.
same on water or heating demand.
then goes to red flashing reset button approx flash 1 per second.
was a lot of cob webs on outside flue terminal, brushed these away, still no progress.
had a brief look inside boiler, yes i know this is gas safe area, looks very clean but boiler fires up when case approx 2 inches away from boiler.
but not when screwed back.
just really need any pointers on what she needs to tell her engineer so he may be able to collect parts on way just to speed up repair and get her warm again.
gas has now been turned off in the gas meter box.lever fully turned down as per adhesive tape instruction.
has electric cooking, just boiler on gas.
any help would be very helpfull.
many thanks,

You can tell them what you've already mentioned. They'll want you to describe the problem, but any engineer who needs the customer to pinpoint the cause is not an engineer.

She doesn't need to tell the engineer anything but describe the symptoms. The engineer will be able to repair that fault in under 45 mins and should have parts on van.Its not diyable.I would never go and pick up parts on a customers diagnosis.

thanks for quick replys.
neighbour has her own heating engineer, was nice of him to even answer his phone while on a holiday.
she just wants boiler back working as soon as possible,i am not going to attempt to repair this boiler, well out of my scope.
so any idea of what is the cause of this fault ?

many thanks.

Most likely a combination of a poor quality boiler installed by a cowboy and lack of proper maintenance.
I have never in my life seen this model installed as it should. As said above, a good repair specialist won't need any pointers at all, other than an accurate description of what is happening.
