Hi

I have just moved into a new house and it has a Worcester 9.24 boiler combi in it. Now the boiler seems in ok condition so I don't really want to change it if possible but we are having a few problems with hot water and the thermostat.

When we shower in a morning we only get about 2 minutes of hot water before it seems to blow the pilot light out and it has to be reset and then the same thing happens again. Other than this the pilot light stays on all the time.

In regards to the thermostat, this has to be turned past 26 - 28 degrees for it to click on even when it is cold in the house. Overnight it doesn't seem to come on at all and so we wake in the morning to it being freezing.

The annoying thing is that i have just had the boiler serviced as i didn't know when it was last done and i thought this may sought the problem out. The gasman said there was nothing wrong with the boiler or the thermostat and that the shower was not attached to the boiler?????

How he arrived at this conclusion i have no idea? Sounds a bit dodgy to me like he hasn't even bothered checking?

I have checked and it is not electric i.e. no fuses either on the wall or in the fuse box and when the shower is switched on the boiler does kick into life.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problems may be or do you think it would be best to have a new combi / condenser boiler installed?

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Brad

I wonder if you live in a different country!

I have not used CH for three months and sleep with the window wide open!

Ok maybe i am been a bit soft saying freezing but i have been living in Denmark for the last year prior to buying the house and they have something called community heating where they use the surplus hot water produced by the local power station to heat the apartment blocks permanently, so i guess we have been pampered a bit!!

Anyway i will get onto looking for a new thermostat and get it installed.

In regards to the shower it has no name and seems quite old. It is basically i dial on the wall and then the shower cable attaches to a pipe coming out of the wall. We have no documentation for it but i will take a picture (of the shower and boiler) and post it here tomorrow.

We thought it may be a problem with the water pressure i.e. too much so i turned down the amount of water coming through the stop tap (it was open 3 full turns). This hasn't made any difference.

Whilst the wife was in the shower i stood and watched what the boiler did. Once she had been in for a couple of minutes it started to make noises a little like a boiling kettle and then the pilot light just cut out. I assume this is some sort of safety cut out but no idea where the problem may lie.
