I had a sudden high-pressure catastrophic leak at cold water pressure. Engineer #2 who attended said that the clip was totally missing.
Boiler had been serviced and right-hand block replaced 4 days earlier by Engineer #1.
Engineer #2 said that Engineer #1 wouldn't have needed to touch the left-hand side at all.
Is it possible that the clip had been missing for months or years? It "blew" when I had just turned on and off a cold water tap and heard "thudding" noise just before it blew.
