worcester bosch 26 cdi secondary heat exchanger

Good morning,

The above ten year old combi bolier, which is in an elderly relative's house, has been trouble free and regularly maintained throughout its life. A flashing red light associated with the water not heating up has been diagnosed by a plumber as a a failed secondary heat exchanger (having first identifed the fan as the problem). The central heating has been working fine.

He has quoted £600 for the part plus labour but thinks a new bolier would be better option and is going to quote for this as well. Is that about right - the google searches I have done indicate a cost of around £100 for the part.

Is it worth getting a worcester boiler specialist in (they charge minimum £230 call out)?

Any comments would be geatly appreciated.

In my opinion, I would get a second opinion
That does a tad on the high side.

You seem to have answered your own question.

When you say worcester specialist, do you mean worcester themselves?
Yes they charge £230 for a fixed price repair, but I am not sure that secondary heat exchangers are covered on that price tariff.

Personally give an independant guy, personally one that has been recommended to you, a chance.
