Hi Guys

My boiler has started having issues firing up, pasted audio link below

https://sites.google.com/site/sarahjaneappleby/boiler.MP3

it clicks a few times and you hear the flame starting up, sounds like it's started for around 3 or 4 seconds ( everything sounds normal at this stage ) then for no reason it switches off and starts the whole process again....after a few goes it finally starts and seems to run fine.

Pressure looks good and boiler has been perfect up until now, its a Worcester RSF 28i Combi and was serviced 6months ago and is about 8 years old, I've opened it up and the burner and heat exchanger look like new, infact eveything inside looks brand new...I just wish it worked...any ideas ?

Get a fixed price repair from Worcester Bosch for £230. If it's not the PCB then you will have wasted £200. They will cover all parts and labour for that price.

Don't know if you could fire this boiler up with the front off or not, but if you can, put your hand on the PCB wilst trying to fire it, you should feel the relay through the box.

Seems more likely to me to be a gas/ignition problem.

If thats the case it will need a competent gas reg engineer.

It may well not be anything very serious or expensive and I would opt for a good local independent who specialises in repairs rather than installing boilers. It might well be fixed for about £84

sorry lucky, but how can i be sure? not stood in front of your boiler.

let us know how you get on.

(i am 45mins away)

but there might be someone closer?

Spent another few hours on the internet last night and it seems like it might be the APS ( air pressure switch ) apparantly this can be a common fault and you can test it by pulling of the red pipe on the right hand bottom side of the boiler and blowing in it to help clear out any condensation...it seems a little better now but I've found a new one on Ebay for £15 so am going to order this...fingers crossed!

Normally we dont advise on APS problems but on your model it is unusually fitted outside the combustion chamber.

They are liable to condensation causing erratic operation and particularly first thing in the morning.
