Guys, thanks for all the advice.
My choices are limited - the tradesman has gone AWOL - i havent managed to get hold of him for weeks! What can a novice like me do to make it look better?
Norcon, if you think thats ok then i seriously wonder what you would find unacceptable?!!! Im guessing your house looks like some of the pictures in the 'DIY disasters' forum.
