Worktop Oil

Hi!

I lightly sanded down a couple of minor marks on my wood utility worktop counter. When I went to oil the area it’s gone dark. No idea why. I’m using Rustins Worktop Oil (Natural Finish - Quick Dry)...Any advice would be welcome.

It's usually water that makes the wood black.
