Hello I have to ask advice please. I had a call out yesterday worcseter si ii no heat or h/water and water leaking bad. I found the main heat exchanger had a pin hole in so after telling the customers the price would be around £200 just for part and who knows until can fill up and test what the water has done. I give the leak sealer a try and i screwed a self tapper in the hole and its stopped (how long who knows) but the boiler needed hairdrier on it and after it would spark fire but still spark and i fiuxed that the hoit water great but heating it fires but no heat and the hot water pipe gets hot. Diverter or plate heat ex ? advice please boys

i havent charged a penny im trying to save them monry i said if they needed a new heat exchanger it would be expensive so i wanted to get t filled and tested so could find fault on anything so ripping people off ? erm ive charged zero pounds so terrible isnt it ?

Is the best advice to the customer not to get Worcester out on a fixed price repair?

I doubt that Worcester engineers would screw self tapping screws into the heat exchanger!

Dont do any silly favours, the boilers fooked tell them and quote them. A steel screw shoved into a copper heat exchanger isnt going to last very long and when it goes next time I can guarantee who will be getting the blame from all sides.

I put a screw in the heat exchanger for 1 reason get it filled and see if water has damaged electrics. I returned today and id left it drained down and let it dry out telling her to put heater on for 10 min every hour or two. I got there filled up and it fired hot water ok ok but heating going through into hot water pipe.I took plate heat ex out left it in fx put my powerflush machine on connections and let it have a run and i put it back in and all working. I get parts off a lad who works for the gas board he strips boilers taken out and sells the parts so i got a heat exchanger for £40 and charged £120. I look at this forum and think some people just think this job is some sort of hard technical job why ?
