on one side of the partition was a wetroom (18mm ply + limestone tiles) and on the other side 12.5mm plasterboard? Or should I go for 4x2 for extra strength?

Thanks.

Also, is there a way of fixing the head plate to an RSJ? The stud wall will be running parallel along the underside of the RSJ. The sill will be ok because I can screw it to the chipboard flloring and glue it but with the head plate that clearly will not be possible. The BCO mentioned some sort of tie that you can get??

yup
called tech screws
they have a drill bit on on the end and the screw then self taps to the steel cost about 20 pence each
screwfix sell them
you have to pre-drill your timber though
cheers
