I would fight for my wife, my family and myself if and when it comes to it but would never fight for my country.

You only have to look at how our elderly are treated in this country as a burden on the state. Some of them were also asked to fight for their country many years ago - look what it did for them.

What if the best way to protect your family was to fight for the country?

I see what you are getting at and to be honest, I don't know how I would feel. The trouble is, we are much less trusting of our government these days and less likely to think that fighting for our country is the right thing to do. We already know about our professional soldiers that go off and fight in some Sandland, only to be thrown on the scrap heap when they have their legs blown off.

Sadly, soon I must retire in preparation for the toils of the M60 and the ongoing abominations of the upgrading of this stretch of tarmac.

I disagree - what they mean is that "our tribe" is better than "your tribe" and we're going to prove it.

Funny really, we all thought we were the top dogs but undone in the end
by overlooking the consequences of being naive and being outwitted by
people who have virtually stopped evolving 800 yrs ago.. priceless lol.
