Hi ya'lll, I was really confused when today I opened up an airing cupboard and found that the pump was fitted to the primary return

Can anyone advise why it was installed that way? I am pretty sure the correct way wouls to have it on the primary flow!!

What would you recommend about this installation,

Thanks in advance

Why do you think the pump is on the return?

Does it feed the AB port on the MZV?

Can't see any problem in principle with such an arrangement, providing the water flows though the diverter valve in the right direction.

Mine's been on the return 22 years, put there because I was told it would last longer cos it's cooler. It'll probably fail tomorrow, but 22 years isn't bad...

Hi guys thanks for your replies.

Yes it flows into the AB valve, my system was noisy and had a look and its what i saw. It looks like it has not been touched for ages.

I only moved in 4 months ago, thanks

Softus, the pump is on the return on the other side of the boiler from the diverter valve on the flow. The outlets of the diverter valve do as they normally do.

The pump is on the return, but the pump feeds the AB port, so if the A and B ports go to CH and DHW respectively, then what is the pump on the return from? :?

The pump on the return will be after the Heating and Cylinder circuits rejoin. It's really the same as the usual set-up with the pump on the flow just before the diverter valve, except that the pump is further back around the circuit on the return before the boiler.

At least I'm assuming all of that because I can't imagine any other arrangement that would work.

I suspect that you're right, but one of the following two statements must surely be wrong:
