You're a fellow human in personal stress?

JP

I must apologise profusely to you. Somehow I have missed this. I am so sorry about your wife.

First, can I say, there is absolutely no right or wrong way to mourn and no time limit within which mourning is completed.

Regarding exercise, there are many that can be done in a chair, moving the arms and legs, using small hand-held weights, or cans of food if you don't have weights.

As regards buying a bungalow, as others have said regarding other decisions, don't be hasty. If your house has a room downstairs suitable for use as a bedroom, you might want to stay put. Are there situations where you might have friends to stay, in which case the upstairs will not be redundant. You'd just need your cleaner to whizz round now and again to keep it tip-top.

I can't access your details, so don't know where you are, but if you are near me, I'd be happy to meet up for a chat in a café or pub.

If you need help, I'd be willing to help out with stuff where I can.

If distance proves too much, the "happy to chat" offer still stands.

Beans on toast doesn't do, nutritionally

Actually, beans on wholemeal toast, or beans on jacket potato with cheese melted over the top is, nutritionally, not at all bad.

No - you can't eat it all the time, but most people could do with eating things like that much more often than they do.

I know it's easy for me to say this as a veggie (!), but cutting down a little on meat, maybe having a meat-free day every week, would be a good adjustment to the diet, as well as saving money.

I obviously don't eat meat, but the rest of my family do, and I've noticed just how expensive it is.

Yeah, I'm pretty clued up on nutrition. Call it a fad, but I'm favourably persuaded on the benefits of fermented foods, like Kefir. There's some fascinating work been done on the gut biome.
Eggs feature fairly strongly. That's about as far as I get into cooking, for various reasons. Yes I do eat the yolk(!) Where TV personalities have binged on eggs as an experiment, the cholesterol numbers have hardly twitched. I use a lot of Huel - food in a bottle.

I appreciate the thoughts and offers.
I can say after um, 10 months now that the effect is almost as present as at week 1. There's a skin of isolation, but it's fragile. The fact remains that what I recognised as my life, where WE trundled along a road with diversions for near 50 years, is gone. One day, it vanished. There's no road any more.
It would be worse if I were short of money, but I'm not. I made a lot to look after my wife who was expected to outlive me by 25 years. It's still growing, faster than I'll be spending it. There's no thing I want. It's quite a temping idea, to buy a bungalow leaving this place for the state to sort out, there being no kids. Save tidying up.

If you like sauerkraut, I can heartily recommend the Vadasz brand. They also make kimchi, and great pickled cucumbers. Everything I've had of theirs has been good, and nothing like the mass-produced stuff in jars and tins. Just don't be alarmed if you buy a tub and the lid is bulging.

AIUI there is no/precious little evidence that eating foods which are high in cholesterol has any effect on your blood cholesterol levels.
