Zafira and power steering problem

Good evening

Can anyone help with a zafira problem. The garage replaced the leaking petrol fuel filter and on return (by coincidence I think) the engine developed a high pitched whining sound (the bearings, my mechanic friend told us) and a week later the battery light was on and the PAS had stopped operating.

Is there a link between the PAS and the bearings/battery level problem???

There is absolutely no problem in turning the engine over to start up.

Any help appreciated before I ask the garage to look at it.

Alternator is Kaput!! First thing to go is the power steering as there isnt enough power output to keep it working!

Belated thanks KingboyD - it was the alternator, had it replaced and now working fine.
