Zanussi washer dryer WDJ 1285

Hi there,

Switch the machine on - nothing happens (no power light on the door, no water entering). Leave the machine on and loaded up and the machine starts spontaneously some time later - could be 10 minutes, or up to an hour later. Thereafter runs fine and completes cycle. Inconvenient if you need laundry in a hurry.

Took the lid off to look for loose connections. No obvious problems apart from a build up of debris (calcium?) on the red plastic arm that's moved by changing the program.

Any suggestions about possible source of this problem much appreciated. The machine is circa 10 years old, so possibly not worth calling out an engineer.

Have a close look at the wiring on the on/off switch, tend to melt,failing that does the machine start if you slam the door ,if so will be the door interlock switch.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's not the door - tried bashing that plenty of times, with no effect. But it could be the on/off switch. It's very "sticky" (takes a long time to move from on to off position). Also my wife tends not to switch the machine off when changing programs.

I'll take another look under the bonnet tomorrow.

Its the wiring connection on the display board on the front panel that needs very carefully cleaning up and also gently ease the connection springs on the wiring connector down slightly to make sure when you push it back it touches the board it was a very common problem which led Electrolux (Zanussi) to modify the board but theres still a few early one's about im guessing yours is one.
