Can anyone through any light on this problem?

Model Zanussi Essential. ZWF 140 70W

When its on its max 1400 spin, it creates an awful matalic noise,

like a pnematic drill!

This has only happened a couple of times!! so far!

Not always bearings

Can be drum bearings
Spider broken
Shaft damaged
Motor bearings
Counterweight loose
Rubbish inside drum

Just had a Miele with a spoon caught between the inner and outer drum made a right racket and was a pain to remove.

Its hard to give a definate when you cant see or hear the machine but you can give likely points

This is an odd one, as it only does it now and again!!

It is a terrible noise, only just had a new drum about 6 weeks ago,

for simular prob.

who did the drum and was it fixed properly (why was a new drum needed in the first place)

Very awkward to diagnose noises without hearing where it comes from

To check motor bearings remove the drive belt and do a spin cycle (if it rumbles loudly then motor bearings are wearing)
check drum pully wheel bolted on tight (reversed thread normally)
try lifting up front edge of inner drum (does it move)
With the drive belt off slowly rotate the drum by hand (can you hear any clicking or scraping)
Have all the counter weights been refitted correctly
Have the motor mounting bolts come loose
Does the inner drum move backwards and forwards in the outer tub
when the drum was changed were the bearings and spider done as well
are the suspension springs and dampers ok (is the machine vibrating around)

sort of a start

Thanks for info Leccy758

The drum was fitted by an subby engineer from Curry's ''whateverhappens'' policy.

I think the bearings are included with the replacement drum, I was told that as the drum dosen't split in two the whole assy (including bearings) had to be replaced, as I understand it anyway!

It does vibrate but not excessive, does not move around.

seems a little out of balance to me
check springs, legs & pulley on tight enough & first priority the concrete weights

Engineer came today and after running it on spin (Empty) no problem arose, even though he shook the machine whilst it was spinning.

He said that as it was an intermediate problem it would have to get worse before it could be identified!!

Sorry!! then he went............???

You cant test the spin properly with an empty machine when looking for noises, sometimes you need a load

I use a test load (cottons coveralls) to check it out
