I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction regarding my central heating (rads on 1st floor) and underfloor heating (ground floor).

At the moment the UFH will only pump hot water around the system if the central heating (radiators) is running. The boiler will fire only if the master central heating stat demands hot water so it is possible for the UFH to pump cold water because the master stat is already up to temperature.

The UFH has a programmer with built-in stat which will activate the pump if not up to temperature. Each UFH circuit is thermostatically controlled also.

I'd like to be able to have the radiators and/or UFH calling for hot water, not relying on the rads to be hot just to warm the bottom floor. Can somebody please tell me how I can achieve this?

Cheers.

The ufh will need its own flow & return pipework from the boiler or before first rad on system, here you will need two motorised valves one on rad pipework and one on ufh pipework, each stat will then switch the relevant valve witch will in turn call for the boiler

Nice one - thanks.

Does that mean that the rads and the UFH can be on at the same time if needed?

Is it fair to say that any plumber worth his salt could take a look at this and sort it i.e. it's not a specialised subject?
