My son has stripped the paint from his window sill using a heat gun however , he has got the heat too close to the upvc window resulting in a red discolouration of the window in 2 places . I'm guessing that the heat has turned the pigment in the plastic and cant be rectified ?
Any help will be gratefully received

Have you tried scraping it with a flat head screwdriver? you can 'shave' upvc

Well that's messed up.

Can you strip the sealant from the edge, then get a strip of UPVC fascia and stick that onto it then reseal.

It would hide it and look very similar to the window.

hi, thanks for the replies
I cant scrape it as there isnt a 'crust' on the plastic it's just turned a red colour .
Painting it is out the question , i think im going to struggle to blend in another piece of plastic ontop but i'm wondering whether i could prime then spray the bottom of the window if there's a suitable product , i would be easier to blend in if i could find one ..
i'll post a picture later

Try sanding it off, finishing with a fine grade paper. You might not end up with the high shine finish but it would be much better than scorch marks.

You don't need a crust in order to scrape it, you are shaving the actual upvc material itself. UPVC is very soft and you can easily take the top layer off. It depends how deep the scorch has gone though.

This, or as said, stick a strip of upc flashing over the bottom edge.

Explan to said son the error in his ways, but everyone learns from there mistakes so assuming its the first time he's heatgunned upvc dot go to hard on the daft bugger!

I'm not too sure of the meaning of 'flashing' ..
Do you mean another strip of upvc which is then stuck over the top of the bottom of the window to cover the 'burns' ?

Here's a picture of the 'burn' which doesnt look too bad but the picture only shows the 'dark' red when in actual fact the whole of the bottom edge is discoloured
I've tried to 'scrape' the affected area but to no avail & i dont really want marks on the plastic

Yes, basically, exactly that. Ive even seen DIY strip with double sided tape already on the back of it, but any lenght of UPVC something stuck on with sealant/adhesive would do you.

Spraying it will not last, your best bet is a bit of UPVC strip, available from your local UPVC window fitters.

Think it will be hard to get an even finish if you spray it, but would like to see pics when you're done.

Surely it would have to be a thick white paint/spray to cover that colour?

Have you tried scraping it with a stanley knife blade perpendicular to the upvc? It looks to me like it would work. The burn can't be that deeply ingrained.
Just put the blade on the upvc at a right angle then draw/scrape it along it smoothly...a few times.

I've done this on something similar and its worked.
