fixing Hardi board to a brick wall?

one wall of my shower cubical is brick wall, the rest are stud. I can fix to stud no problem but how to i attached to the brick.

Is it a case of attaching wood to the wall and fixing to there? this isnt ideal as id lose too much space :confused:

The manufacturers recommended method of fixing is timber battens & then fix the backer boards to that.

Another method that works with cement based boards is to dot & dab them into place & then provide an additional mechanical fixing through the board & adhesive dab into the wall, have a read of this thread;
