Is it still permissable to 'clip direct' the cable to the wall in a cellar ?

NOt aware of any direct reference in the regs ?

P.S. there is no sunlight down here !!

Yes, but consider any influence that may apply mechanical damage to cabling. If in doubt you could add PVC conduit, it makes changes easy to implement.

Thanks for the reply.
Basically I want to run a new ring circuit round the cellar wall to save disturbing a 'very nice' lounge carpet up above. (customer request)
Trunking / conduit is obviously best practice but as always it comes down to cost.
The cable run is at head height / along joists with very little chance of mechanical damage.
I was having a 'discussion' with a fellow sparky who said it was no longer allowed, but as I said I cant find any specific reference in the regs.
Again I suppose its down to interpretation!

I would like to know the basis for such a statement. There is no NEW regulation concerning the clipping of cables other than the recent recommendations concerning cabling buried in walls. I'd tell him to pull his trousers up!!
