How does God work?

There is no god. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever for the existence of a god.
God was invented by people who wanted to be in control but did not have the strength or ability to gain control by fighting.
And when primitive man did not know about science and how things worked, god was a way of explaining natural phenomenon. People who liked to "mansplain" things and be the centre of attention., If they didn't know how something worked, they would airily tell people there was a 'god' who made everything happen - the sun, the weather, etc.
So why does the sea go up and down every day? "Oh, errr, ummmm.....well there is a god in the sky who makes it happen".
"Why was there a big drought which ruined our crops?" " Oh, ummmm ........there is a god in the sky who controls everything, and he is angry because YOU did not go to church and pray to him. Now you need to sacrifice one of your own children to appease god and make the rain come back." "Oh, right. OK then".
People talk about heaven or having seven virgins or whatever, but how does anyone know?. Once you are dead you can't come back and tell anybody, so how do these living so-called prophets know this? Answer, they don't, they just make it all up.
Having said all that, if it makes individuals feel happy or secure by thinking there is a God, then, I am all for that. It is absolutely fine to hold beleifs - as long as they freely believe and don't use it as an excuse to hurt or influence other people.

Nope.
That's true but people who don't believe aren't organised on a Worldwide basis around the sole purpose of promoting belief and, in some cases, punishing those that don't believe. The burden of proof is with those that maintain that system, not those that have doubts.
Some of my family are religious and one of my uncles (sadly no longer with us) summed it up perfectly. He said something like 'as far as I'm concerned, my faith is a direct relationship between me and God.' I think what he was indirectly referring to was he didn't afford that much importance to the organised parts of religion we see around us.
For example, if you take the Catholic faith, they have Vatican City and extreme wealth. Surely if Jesus existed and reappeared today, he'd want them to sell off most of their land and material possessions, give the money to the poor, and operate from a very basic office block in Italy to save money. No? It's all these sort of things and more that just don't add up to me. Same with the Church of England, basically created by a King cause he wasn't getting his own way (marriage wise?) in the Catholic church, at least I think that's the history of its founding?
Yeah as some have touched on in this thread, although I'd class myself as agnostic, I don't hold any strong views against those who believe in the existence of God. If people have faith and believe in God and that helps them get through life, good luck to them.

No, not in the way you assert. Don't confuse respect with blind support or infatuation. People have many reasons to join in with their communities. To support that they behave in a particular way. If people have an easier life by doing that, their morality shifts to support it. These are simple anthropological realities, not any evidence for existence of any non-imagined superior being.
No need, no value. I can't and don't try to prove, that fairies don't live in the woods...
"Agnostic" is accepted to have a range of meanings. If you hold that it means "One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God" and you align yourself with that view, then you place yourself diametrically opposed to those who view that they do have that knowledge.
Believing in something without evidence, isn't something I have respect for.
I wouldn't have an agnostic position on the fairies existing outside someone's imagination, either.
And yet, here you are.
