Disabled Parking - Funny

No, no.

She would have to forfeit the mobility portion of DLA in order to receive the Motability vehicle.

Disability Living Allowance is being phased out. It's being replaced by Personal Independence Payment, which also requires the disabled person to be completely re-assessed (hopefully not by ATOS)
A chap in our local, lost both his legs (due to an accident) and a few years ago was assessed by ATOS as being "Fully fit for work" He'd had one leg amputated about a year before the other one. ATOS thought he'd only had one leg removed (and replaced by a prosthetic limb) Serves them right for not reading his medical notes. (not that ATOS assessors actually read anyone's medical notes)

I think the fact you have to pay to use a hospital car park is as tragically sad as having to pay to park outisde your own house. Sad little country.
That's the stupid thing about hospital car parks, they still put the disabled bays nearest to the exit even though the car park is three miles away from the main building.

So disabled people get given money to spend on a car but it's not free? Not saying that's wrong..my previous comment was tongue in cheek. In my world I would class that as free though.

No. Disabled people are not given money for a car. They are given money for their disability in an effort to try and lead as normal a life as possible taking into account their disability. A healthy person can get on a bus or ride a bike, if they don't have access to a car, in order to go places. A disabled person can use their disability allowance in any way they deem most suitable for them. Some, but by no means all, use their allowance to 'lease' a car for 3 years in order to help them get out and have a certain amount of independence. They usually have to pay a deposit to lease and they have to take care of the vehicle or they will lose their deposit at the end of the term. There is also the possibility that if they don't look after the vehicle they will not be able to 'lease' another one.

For anyone who thinks having a disability car means you have a cushy lifestyle I would suggest they spend a week as a carer for a genuinely disabled person. Not seeing to their 'personal' needs but acting as a bag carrier, gardener, odd job man, cooks assistant, (lifting pans of hot water/food etc), watching as they struggle to carry out everyday tasks because they hate relying on others, getting frustrated when trying to change a fuse in a plug and their arms won't coordinate. Then sit back and realise just how fortunate you are not to be in their shoes.

Well said!!

I had to do all of the above for my mother for many years before she was even awarded any benefits. When she finally was, the assessor who came to see her couldn't believe that she hadn't been given any form of disability payment whatsoever, especially after reading her surgeon's letter that her x-rays showed she had the worst arthritic hips he had ever seen, and she was then fortunate enough to get some backdated payments. (The NHS's faffing around prior to that surgeon's involvement is another story.) She didn't need a motability car because she was taken everywhere by me, but she would have had to use a proportion of her allowance to finance it if she had.

I think (or hope) most of the comments criticising the disabled in this thread are aimed at the people who 'play the system' and get away with claiming disability for an ingrown toenail, because I know that people with genuine disabilities would rather have their mobility and independence than a few extra quid!

wish my boy didnt get it,and that he was born without the problems he has had to endure.
he was born with club feet.
its breaks my heart watching him walk the way he does in constant pain.
but thats what life threw at him and thats what makes him as a person.and now the poor little sod has been diagnosed with ASD.hes nearly 13,6 years ago powers that be gave him a badge, and then he got awarded dla, within weeks they rescinded the badge and a year later didnt renew the dla.we have fought every step to get what he rightfully deserves, including having a panel appeal with an advisor from the .C.A.B office,he was awarded the lowest you can get.as his problems have got more severe 2 years ago he got awarded more.
hes my very own 'forest gump':)
as for the missus she has 3 degenerating disks in her back,at last count shes on 30 odd tablets a day.
was offered an op,but at 30% chance of being better, and if they made a mistake she could end up in a chair for life.so along with her gp we thought the odds were a little thin.

havnt got a scooby on how the system can be played, because with us we have had to see endless dr's,consultants and specialists and reams of form filling.so how on earth do they manage to get it when they have a cold really boils my pi55.

I don't understand how they get away with it either. I had a shoulder injury in 2010, two failed operations and still couldn't claim a penny because I was capable of work other than physical. All I tried to get was some kind of lowest rate sickness benefit until my shoulder was sorted (which it never was) and was able to go back to painting & decorating but I got nowhere. In the two years that my shoulder was operated on twice and with recovery time I earned less than £4k while the 'players' could have got tens of thousands, or more if you include housing costs, council tax, etc. Oh well, at least I have my clear conscience.

Here's my contribution. I'd have posted it on YPLAC.com, but I can't see a way of doing it directly from my computer.

My pictures are not on any website. Took them myself.
