hi all,
well my boiler is working a ok for my hot water no problems there it fires up fine. but for the heating it starts fine then cuts itself out after about 10 mins, and won't start again for 30 mins. i've tried reseting it, turning it all off and on (typical man thing) and checked the radiators and pressure, please help, i'm sure it's nothing serious as it works for a little while

thanks

Lee

That's a damn fine Wickes boiler you have there Lee. Sorry no need for that. Are the rads getting any heat to them? What's your system pressure set to?

it's not my boiler!! :-) yeah the radiators do get hot, and the pressure is just below 2, as the manual suggests, thanks for the quick reply!!!

Well in less than half an hour you decide that your boiler is NOT your boiler ???

Whose boiler is it anyway ?

Whats the history?

Has it always been like that ( regardless of who owns it) ?

Tony

if you live in rented accommodation its the landlords problem not yours.

i've lost count of the amount of times i've been asked by a mate to pop round & look at a boiler in their rented property.

you wanna help your mate, but that don't pay the bills.

standard response now is to give them my card & ask them to pass it on to their landlord.

sorry for the confusion, the boiler is in the house i'm renting so it's my landlords, but she lives overseas,

the boiler has been fine unitl about a week ago. it's up to me to maintain the boiler, long story short i get dirt cheap rent, as it's a family friend, so i'm sure it's just a case of adjusting something simple as it kinda works, cheers

It may well be that the system is just getting up to temperature and cutting out on th eroom stat.

Try turning it up to 30°C and see if it stays on for longer !

Tony

i would assume you have a halstead boiler of some description rebadged.

dont assume its something simple.

have you recently just tried the heating after it has been off over the 'summer' ?

is it possibly microbore ?

do all the radiators begin to get hot ?

there is a possibility that its a 'sludge' problem ?

what is rs? what is a sludge problem? and what is microbore? sorry i'm useless. all of the radiators get hot, and i've been using it sometimes over the summer, because it's good old britain, so it's not been sat still. any actions that i can carry out to see whats what??

cheers

If the rads are getting hot and hw ok, what is the problem? Have you got thermostatic rad valves fitted to the radiators? As Tony said is there a room stat, where is it fitted if so and what temp is it set to?

no room stat, so it's not that, the problem is that the radiators are supposed to stay on until i shut them off, as they did a week ago, but now they turn themselves off when they shouldn't

sorry

rs = room thermostat (that was directed at Agile really)
sludge = muck built up within the heating system
microbore = 8 or 10mm diameter pipework feeding radiators
