various temperatures on rads

Can anyone give me a bit of help please. we have just moved into a new house and all the rads are at different temps, some hot at top and cool at bootm and vice versa, some just luke warm and some just cold. i have bled them and water is coming out of bleed valve, don't think it would be sludge as it's only a 6month old system... would it be a pump or balancing problem ??????

you can try turning off all the upstairs rads to force the water through the downstairs ones and vice versa see if it makes a differnce, what kind of system do you have?

tried that as well didn't make a huge difference, i went a stage further and shut off every rad except for 1 at a time, the only 1 that got really hot was the rad without the TRV. the system is an unvented one, where i have a large storage tank in upstairs cupboard and combi boiler downstairs, well i think it's called unvented, certainly no header tank etc ????

New house or just new system? If a new house, get the builder to put it right. Should be covered by the warranty on the house.

If a new system which is only six months old, you could get the installer back and get him to put it right. But as it is almost definitely a balancing problem and the installer did not do it correctly the first time, that option is probably a waste of time!

Remove the heads from all TRVs, so they are fully open and check what happens then. If you want to have a go at balancing, you will need some way of measuring the temperature of the two pipes connected to each rad. The easiest way is an infrared thermometer, costs about £20 from Maplin.

yes try to make sure the TRV's are fully on, take off the heads as the doc says and tap the metal pins a little incase they are jammed (unlikely though since its new system an valves)

It could also be a air problem if it wasnt filled correctly, since its a sealed system youy can try turning the boiler on and off at the isolation switch a few times, this can sometimes push out the air (turn on wait till u hear it fire up then switch it off, wait 10 sec or so then turn on again, repeat this for a while, if you hear alot of air rushing/gurgling around then its probably an air issue not sludge)
