Hi all, I hope someone can point me in the right direction here...I'm not an electrition or gas man & i have no intention of messing around with this myself. I just wan't an idea of what the problem could be before I call someone out.

We have a inset Gas fire in the lounge which worked fine a while ago, however now it has a problem.
There is a switch (isolator i suppose) on the wall next to the fire. THis switches on ok...so far so good. Then you pull forward a brass plate on the front bottom of the fire & there is a small rocker switch which you have to turn on before you can light the pilot. This is where the problem starts. As soon as you flick the switch, it trips the circuit breakers in the house & all electrics go off!!!

Any ideas anyone?

THank you in advance for your help.

What exactly trips? What is written on the device whose switch flicks to the OFF position?

Do you know what the electric supply to the fire is for?

Is it just for an ignitor?
Maybe for some lights?
Or does your fire have a fan assisted flue?

Hi, no lights on it but I think it may have a fan assisted Flue..! guessing a bit though!

Certainly sounds like your gas fire is the power flue type. First port of call would be to check the fan.

Other than that the pcb controlling the safety device would need checking.

All powered (fan flued) gas fires should have the gas shut off in less than 6 seconds if the fan fails.
