hiya,
we have a heatline s30 boiler that keeps cutting out - the gas failure light comes on and we have to reset it - sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. british gas have replaced the pcb board on their 1st visit - then upped the gas pressure on 2nd visit - then replaced 2x electrodes and 1 x sensor on 3rd visit - 4th visit is tomorrow because we still have the same problem. when you reset the boiler you can see that the burners do not fully light at first maybe one line of flames then a few more to the left or right of the centre this will usually end up with the gas cutting out - on the other hand sometimes it relights first time - any ideas apart from more blankets ??

thanks

Don't really know these boilers, but as a general rule I would be looking at a faulty gas valve.

The pcb appears to be telling the valve to open, but it sounds like it is not opening fully, or at least not quick enough to satisfy the flame detection electrodes.

what we have noticed is that when you turn the radiator heat down the burners are more likely not to ignite and also in the morning they'll be out - also when we flush the loo when the thing is running the temperature drops or at least the lights indincate this bit odd eh?

i'll ask the british gas fella tomorrow again about the gas valve

The s series needed a cross lighting strip to be fitted on the burner, get the BG person to check for this, and also the ignition settings on the pcb.

british gas man been again mentioned the gas lighting strip thing he said if its been working ok he doubt's it that - so now we have also had a new gas valve fitted but still have the same problem - still locking out still having trouble re setting boiler as the flames still do the same thing whereby they don't light fully. if we turn boiler down can guarantee it wil lock out - any more ideas?

BG are the worlds worst at diagnosing faults, tell them you want a Heatline agent and for them to pay for it. ;)

This should read....some of BG are bad at diagnosis!

The Technical Support manager should be invovlved in any job that has had this many visits, he may be a bit more experianced in tricky faults??

Dont think there is a BP ignition setting on the PCB on any of the baxi's??

Is the injector and the burner free from debris or blockages???

funny because yesterdays british gas man mentioned the technical support manager - we are expecting a visit today from another british gas fella.

wouldn't they of checked for debris n blockages before oredering all these new parts? we'll see what unfolds on this afternoons visit

depends on how thorough your engineer was?? And if he thought of that.

The other thing I would be looking at, is there a flue restrictor ring which restrics the air flow into the boiler.... might be muffling its self, or
is there something in the flue???

think flue is ok because they've been checking it each visit - what i can make out is when they come they put on their laptops and do as their fault finding thing says - just waiting for the one that says computer says no

I thought they had an ignition gas pressure setting on the PCB? Pot 3 ?

Cross lighting has been a problem on the 28/30 kw models of several different makes of boilers.

However, as this has suddenly started then its unlikely to be specifically as a result of no flue restrictor or cross lighting strip.

do you have any other ideas ? last gas man said if the fault wasn't fixed by replacing gas valve then the only thing left are the burners ? what do you think ?

It just needs a competent engineer.

Unfortunately BG are very poor when dealing with less well known boilers like Alpha, Biasi, Heatline, Sime etc.
