Any idea's

I fitted an accenta mini gen4 alarm about 2 weeks ago without any problems using all 8 zones with pirs and door contacts also fitted 2x RKP's.

After a week the alarm went off as i was watching the tv, the alarm was unset and was displaying on the lcd keypad tamper loop as i checked the event log. No one had been anywhere near any of the alarm parts.

I checked all the tamper connections on the pirs, keypads and the panel and checked the tamper wires in the daisy chain and found all to be intact and could see no problem.

The alarm worked fine again until i came home today to find the alarm had went off at lunch time with the same fault on the event log.

Does anyone have a idea of the problem or do i need to check with a meter on all the zone tampers in turn?

Many thanks in advance.

it depends on what is connected and how long the cables are.

i would expect a low reading (in ohms) but i would also expect it to be stable.

say for argumnts sake the whole loop measures 30 ohms, and for conveiniance its made of 10 loops

now meter them starting at one end and work you way round, if say the first 4 loops are 1 ohm, loop 5 is 25 ohms and the remaining loops are 1 ohm, which do you think is the one with the problem?

Breezer do you think the problem will show as it has only done this twice and may not be present at the time i check with the meter.

Or should the cause of the problem show?(as an unstable reading)

Just a quick one i have been looking at other subjects members have been listing about pirs in kitchens and conservatory.
I have fitted a Honeywell IS215TCE pir be in my conservatory, will this be ok or will i need a better one for there?

Thanks for the help.

I will let you know how i get on.

dont bother buying a meter - the fault only appears once a week ............. so unless your stood there at that exact moment you`ll not get any indication

simply take everything back to pieces, inspect every wire run and every connection, open and close every lid and switch - then disconnect the tamper as you`r unlikely to find anything wrong anyway.

the detector in the consvrty needs changing its just not suitable for the job.

Can not check wire runs as they run under floor boards as some of the cables are from when house was built a few years ago.

Opened all lids and checked connections and springs all seem fine!

Write i have the meter readings on the zones

The total was 22 ohms on the loop.

Below is the nearest to furthest away from panel-

These readings were from the panel end.

Utility pir room was 1 ohms
Kitchen pir was 1 ohms
garage pir was 1 ohms
Back door 1 ohms
Dining room pir was 2 ohms
Conservatory pir was 1 filicking on 2 ohms
Lounge pir was 2 ohms
cloakroom dooor contact was 3 ohms
Front door contact was 2 flicking on 3 ohms
landing was on 4 flicking on 5 ohms

I have put the meter on the tamper contacts on the landing pir after joining the wires together at the panel. It read from the pir 2 ohms then when i tested it again at the panel end it read 22 ohms!

Could this be because i have had the front off or Could this be the fault?

The alarm has never went off through the night as this pir is omited from the program.

I assume you connected them back into the pir then metered them?
If so it does sound like you have found the problem.
The problem being you have an intermitant tamper.

I should also point out that as all the tampers are in a loop (in your case) , at no time was this pirs's tamper ever not working, you seem to have been lucky it did not go off (but that is waht intermitant faults do)

From whtay ou have said it sounds like its the pir tamper switch.
dissconnect the switch for say a week and see what happens.

But you now see how useful a meter is.

ROFLMAO - he`s achieved nothing of the sort, go read it again.

Yes they are useful!

And could have saved me time on other jobs to.

Thanks for your help and advise.
I will give it a go or get a new pir as i need to get a dual one for the conservatory and swap them over.

Thanks[/quote]

its commonly known as a "dueltech" (duel technology) because it is a P.I.R. and a microwave in the same package.

why not get one from where you got the rest of the kit from?
Different people prefer different brands, so i will not make any recomendations to a brand.
