I've just fitted a new hand basin with mixer tap, and a new Wickes one-piece ECO toilet. I also layed new flooring across the whole flat ready for the toilet etc to sit on top. This means the water system has been emptied for the last 2 months.

I refilled the system and find that the mixer tap and toilet suffer almost non-existent pressure. If anyone can advise me i'd be grateful.

what other water outlets do you have and how are they doing?

Are your water supplies to your WC and basin mixer mains pressure or gravity?

Are the mixer and WC designed to work at the water pressure you have available?

Many UK plumbing installations work at low pressure, gravity fed from a storage tank in the loft. They usually work at pressures between about 0.1 and 0.5 Bar.

Much of the foreign made brassware available is designed to work with water supplies at mains water pressures, which may be 10 times higher than the pressure available on a gravity fed system.

There's a hot tap and cold tap in the kitchen. The cold has loads of pressure and still worked when the system was empty. Is this what you call 'mains pressure?' The hot runs the same as it did before (at a lower level of pressure.)

The mixer tap I got for the new basin says it needs a minimum of 1.0 bar to work. It's gravity fed as is the toilet, i think. They stopped working when I secured the ball valve in a raised position and drained the cold water tank before starting.[/quote]

then it won't work well if its a mains pressure tap on gravity supply.

you may have an airlock in the pipe supply from the cws.
but your 1.0 bar tap will still be very poor flow.

How can I get rid of any trapped air? Would a booster pump help with the mixer tap and toilet?

you need to purge the system - try forcing water back up through the tap using a hose connected to your mains pressure kitchen supply. 1 bar of water pressure will be acheived either by raising the header tank to 10m above the outlet (hmmm!!!) or by using a pump.

i would say its just an airlock on that one. never met a toilet that only works on mains.

i wouldn't want a pump going every time i had a sh*t.
