Kitchen Forum

Hi Ban

What posts are you thinking of?

Maybe the Appliance forum could be re named to Kitchen Appliances or maybe just Washers as that is all that seems to go in there anyway. :D

That's the problem, where do you put a question for kitchen units etc?

I don't know if bas thinking the same way as me(?)

Well I thought one would be a good idea because I've got a specific question about splashbacks, but I can also see how it could be useful for:

Fitting advice

Product experiences

Worktop techniques

Design suggestions

....

I know there is a risk of either duplication, or people not knowing where to post things, as other fora overlap, e.g. electrics, plumbing, appliances, flooring, but with a prominent warning at the top to use another specific forum if your question is specific to another subject, and more work for the mods in moving things around (ha ha) it could work.

Ban, i'm certain your request for a kitchen forum section was born out of altruistic and purely selfless reasons and for the good of all, but your current situation does lend me to believe that your reasons are somewhat less honourable.

I think that's a bit unfair.

I have a kitchen related Q, so I thought "I'll ask on DIYnot".

But there be no Kitchen forum, and I thought "why not? Would it not be a good idea?"

Admin, is it possible for a kitchen forum as I'm seeing a lot of kitchen questions all over the difference forum

its possible, but i dont think its a good idea.

i have a boiler problem, its in the kicthen

my kitchen light doesnt work

the kitchen door does not shut

my whing m/c leaks

these are typical questions, the items are all in the kitchen but each already has its own forum

Not talking about kitchen boiler which is plumbing forum, w/m which is appliances forum or lights which is electric forum etc, kitchen forum for base and wall units, worktop, doors adjustment, difference type of unit door hinges, how to repair a damaged door hinges, plinth, cornice, pelmet, fitting wall units to plasterboards, floor out of level or out of square, floor tiles to the plinth or under the plinth, any others snag problems, the lists is endless but I could on.......

Also from bas post:

Fitting advice

Product experiences

Worktop techniques

Design suggestions

I was going to say why not ask for a forum that is not called "kitchen" but say "design kitchen"

But then i got to thinking when my comes round and i ask would you like plain, milk, or no chocolate biscuits he thinks for a while, but if i just give him what ever we have he has "no choice" My point being there are enough "forums" on here and more will only add to the confusion.
Look at how many post the mods have moved so far because they are in the wrong place, but i still think people will not see the word design but just the word kitchen and post all the wrong questions in there.

OK, so in which of the existing fora should questions about the following go:

Splashback materials
Hanging wall units
Worktop cutting/joining/fitting techniques
Sealing undermounted sinks
Robustness of composite sinks
Quality of units from major suppliers
Experiences of buying and fitting aftermarket replacement doors
.
.
.

Splashback materials [Tools and materials]
Hanging wall units [General diy]
Worktop cutting/joining/fitting techniques [woodwork / tools materials]
Sealing undermounted sinks [general diy]
Robustness of composite sinks [Plumbing] (its a sink, or am i sunk on that one)
Quality of units from major suppliers [general disscusion]
Experiences of buying and fitting aftermarket replacement doors [Windows and doors]

I dont want to argue, its just my opinion, but you could continue to post "categories" and i will fit them in somewhere. This would obvioulsy achieve nothing, but my whole point is the more choice you offer the more likely a question will be in the wrong forum, and the mods have enough trouble as it is.

did you not also say
I know there is a risk of either duplication, or people not knowing where to post things, as other fora overlap, e.g. electrics, plumbing, appliances, flooring, but with a prominent warning at the top to use another specific forum if your question is specific to another subject, and more work for the mods in moving things around (ha ha) it could work.

As i also said, people do not read what is infront of them, so there will be a less than slim chance they will get the right forum the first time, and as you ponted out its more work for the mods which they have trouble keeping up with as it is.

I also note since you intialy asked the question, admin has posted several times elsewhere, but never commented here. I wonder is it admin don't want another forum or some other reason
