Hi all i am after some advice on replacing a CH pump for a friend. The ch pump is a Commodore 130-45 (SMC) measured the length and its the standard 130mm length. There are 2 2" iso valves either side, the top one looks in good nick, the bottom one as been slightly corroded by a weeping gate valve and the union does look in top class condition. The programmer is a very old Randall 30-20p. Drain off just under the pump and the system by the looks of it is a back boiler with gravity fed hotwater/ pumped CH. Just wanted some clarification or advice on the steps that need to be taken.

1. Turn off boiler, turn down room stat and any other external controls.
2. Drain the CH circuit via the drain off under the pump.
3. Remove pump and iso valves.
4. Fit new iso valves, pump and reconnect electrical supplies to programmer. With electrical connections on the top of the pump.
5. Refill system and add inhibitor.
6. Test pump.

I noticed on the pump that the arrow is facing downwards on the pump, isnt this incorrect and in fact it should be facing upwards ?. I guess ill also need a 2" pump spanner to remove the isolation valves?. Any advice or tips that you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

only messing, your modus operandi sounds ok, but install the new pump with the arrows facing the same way as the old one.

Btw how do you remove the front cover of the randall 30-20p? . You have to move the tappets to the top/unscrew them and the cover comes off. There are no screw retaiting the face cover that i can see.

old systems had the pump on the return, just before the boiler, pumping towards the boiler. as said, fit the new one the same as the old one.

Undo the two knurled 'ring nuts' around the switches

The pump that i have bought comes with rubber washers, the iso valves come with fibre washers. I assume i should use the rubber washers provided by grundfos to connect the iso valves to the pump, rather than the fibre washers ?

Shouldn't make much differance, but personally i would use the rubber ones. Keep the fibre ones for future emergencies!
